Bahia Sod is a popular low-maintenance sod perfect for infertile soils. It was first introduced to the United States from Brazil in 1914. It was originally used as a pasture grass on the sandy soils of the southeastern United States. Additional varieties have been introduced since that time and it has become a very popular sod.
The advantages of Bahia Sod are rapid establishment of the lawn and less opportunity for weed pressure or other stresses to cause problems. It is a thick sod and holds up well during periods of drought and is also insect and bug resistant.
Bahia Sod is used throughout Florida. Though not as green as Zoysia or St. Augustine, it is relatively inexpensive sod and it requires very minimal care. It's great for lawns, pastures and landscaping because it has great resistance toward hot and cold weather and other harsh abuse. Bahia Sod's ability to resist drought is mainly because its roots can grow as much as 8-10 feet deep.
